Harlequin Author Mina Khan Pays It Forward

by Koko Brown April 5, 2012
written by Koko Brown April 5, 2012

I’m member of Candy Haven’s online Write Workshop Group and we receive regular announcements on other member news and upcoming releases. I visited the member’s websites and I came across the most heart-warming blog post by Harlequin author Mina Khan.

In her post, Ms. Khan talks about how as the daughter of Bengali parents, Ms. Khan was instilled with the value of education at an early age by her mother who wasn’t able to finish high school due to marriage.

According to Ms. Khan, “Many years later, older and wiser, my mother insisted on her daughters being educated, finishing college. Her favorite saying is ‘No one can take knowledge away from you.’ My late father, who knew a thing or two about raising daughters, made our education a family priority.”

In return for her parents’ “greatest gift” her own education, Ms. Khan is donating 50% of the profits of her current release, A Tale of Two Djinns, to UNICEF’s New Schools of Asia program.

I was so excited by this effort, I immediately bought the book! Education is the only true equalizer in this world besides money.  But its the only one of the two that you can’t lose or squander.

Thank you Koko…for your very kind introduction and share. Paying it forward is so much larger than one person; the more people who get involved, the better the end results.
