Yesterday, I posted my pictures from Elloras Cave’s annual Romanticon convention in Canton, Ohion. And just this morning, an article written by Gena Kaufman of Glamour Magazine came across my Facebook feed!
The article is a great expose on this year’s Romanticon from a newbies point of view. Not only did Glamour’s Smitten blogger have a good time, Ms. Kaufman listed 16 Reasons why she loved attending the conference.
Just in case you were wondering, here’s her top three reasons:
1. An attitude free of judgment or embarrassment about erotica. As soon as you walked into Romanticon, you knew it was going to be a no holds barred discussion of romance and sex. It did not disappoint. Although it may be controversial to some, CEO Patty Marks says, “We want women to know there’s no shame in seeking sexual fulfillment. These books are our aphrodisiacs. They reassure us that our fantasies are not wicked or perverted. These books empower women by letting them own and embrace their sexuality.” Love that attitude!
2. Serious woman power. There were around 300 women in attendance, many of them authors. Ellora’s Cave is a company run by women, for women, and although there were a few men in attendance at the convention (mostly for entertainment, see below), it was truly a weekend celebrating women and their achievements, and also, for women to just plain have fun together. While the tone of the convention was well, unconventional, I was totally inspired to meet so many smart women who were successful on their own terms.
3. Books books books! If 50 Shades of Grey is a Don’t for you, but you like a good sexy book, you might want to check out Ellora’s Cave. Over 80 of their authors were in attendance with the novels they’ve published (one is a New York Times bestseller!). Here are a few I picked up, which the publicist assured me represented both a level more appropriate for erotica newbies and one for the very uh, advanced erotica reader. I’m a little nervous for that one, but I’m keeping an open mind.
